Thame United manager Mark West says they will have to be at the top of their game to win tonight’s second qualifying round replay against Poole Town at the Hithercroft, Wallingford.
On Saturday, Alex Stewart gave the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side the lead, only for the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division leaders to level in the second half.
West, who was manager in 2004 when Thame famously knocked Weymouth out of the FA Cup, says they will need to put on a similar show to have any chance of setting up a home tie with either Bashley or Fleet, who also replay tonight.
“It was a good result because they are not a bad side with some good, experienced players,” said West, who will be without Ben Connolly (hamstring), Adam Rhodes (holiday), Sam Cowan (suspended) and Lawrence El-Kassir (away at university).
“If we get through, we are at home which gives us half a chance.”
West, whose side include Martin Brown, James Saulsbury and Stewart from the giant-killing team of 2004, added: “We drew at Weymouth and then beat them at our place 2-1, but we’re not quite up to that standard yet.
“Poole will be tough and we’ll have to be at our best to beat them.”
Thame Utd: from Barisic, A Rhodes, Brown, Saulsbury, Newell, N Rhodes, Brawn, Rogers, Ricketts, Stewart, Hoskin, Stallwood, Way, Searl, Jones, Rantall, Meredith.
Didcot Town, 1-0 winners at Paulton Rovers on Saturday, will host Basingstoke Town in the third qualifying round.
The Blue Square Bet South side beat Toolstation Western League outfit Bristol Manor Farm 1-0 in a replay last night.
Didcot boss Stuart Peace, who went to the game, said: “It’s a home tie, but I would have preferred to have been away as we have a better record.”
Meanwhile, Abingdon United travel to AFC Totton in tonight’s Zamaretto Southern League Division 1 South & West fixture.
