Linear Fisheries, near Stanton Harcourt, produced a trio of monster carp for Rhys Will-iams from Lancashire last week.

The Oxfordshire big-fish water is really producing the goods at the moment as the carp continue to feed before the colder months set in.

Williams topped an impressive session on St John’s Pool by capturing eight fish, including ‘The Big Common’ at 38.0.6 – a personal best – ‘Two Tone’ at 34.0.8 and ‘The Small Plated’ at 33.0.4.

All were caught using Cell boilies and particles at 70 yards range.

  • A few weeks ago, I told you about Luke Ayling, from Brightwell, who had caught 17 barbel, the best weighing 15lb, from a private stretch of the Kennet.

On his last visit, he landed a 13.1.0 barbel, followed on his next cast by a specimen of 13.8.0, both taking boilies.

In eight sessions, he has caught 70 barbel, 15 of which were doubles.

You may think that barbel on the Kennet are climbing up your rods, but that is not the case.

The stretch that Luke is fishing is strictly private, and the majority of fish are all coming from just one swim.

For some reason, they moved out of the weir after spawning and have all stopped in this one swim.

This stretch is quite narrow with overhanging trees and bushes and you cannot fish the opposite bank as it is too high.

  • KEN White, from Appleton, tries to get out once a week for a spot of fishing and normally goes over to Heyford Lake, near Standlake, targeting the bream with a waggler, size 14 hook and chopped worm.

On his last two visits, he caught a good-sized eel each time. They both weighed around the 5lb mark (see pictured, right) and as large eels are becoming much rarer these days, to catch two is quite an achievement.
