Oxford City 0 Evesham Utd 1 (Shaze 68) Oxford City are still chasing their first win of the season after a second-half strike gave Evesham United victory in the Southern League Premier Division on Saturday.

The visitors grabbed the all-important goal in the 68th minute when substitute Issac Shaze gained possession and waltzed through the City defence before shooting beyond Richard Knight.

It means City are now without a win in nine league games as well as bowing out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle.

Mike Ford’s side had an early attempt when Dan Fitchett fired into the side netting.

David Accram was proving a threat fot Evesham, but he fired an opportunity off target when he could have done better.

Mark Bell’s free-kick for City was then turned round a post by Nathan Vaughn for a corner.

Knight saved Justin Nisbitt’s shot and then did well to block Accram’s attempt as he broke into the area.

After the interval, Evesham could count themselves lucky when Vaughn’s clearance cannoned off Fitchett and went just wide of the goal.

City showed plenty of effort, but struggled to create goalscoring opportunities.

And that inability proved costly as Shaze scored for Evesham.

City continued to battle, but never really looked like equalising.

Now they desperately need a win to restore their confidence and morale.
