Stockport County boss Paul Simpson said that it was unfair of Oxford United fans to have a go at him after Saturday’s game.
A number of U’s fans vented their frustration at Simpson for what they felt was blantant time-wasting.
However, the former Oxford United winger disagreed.
“Some fans were having a go at me at the end saying we were time-wasting,” he said.
“I don’t think it was time-wasting – I would call it managing the time.
“I can’t be blamed if their striker’s offside when he puts it in the back of the net and the linesman gives it.
“I can’t be blamed if the referee only puts four minutes up at the end, and really I don’t care.”
Simpson reflected on a tremendous victory for his side, and one that surprised the manager.
“Our aim this year is to make sure we stay in the league, Oxford's is different,” he said.
“I’m quite sure they’ve got ambitions to be pushing on and getting to the next level.
“Our aim is to get the points we need to be mathematically sure of staying up, nothing more, and to come here and win will give everyone a real lift.
“We needed the three points. I didn’t expect it, but we’ve shown some character and I’m thrilled to bits.”
