Banbury Utd 1 (Taylor 36)
Chippenham Tn 2 (Harvey 58, Griffin 88)
Banbury United crashed out at the first hurdle to Chippenham Town for the third successive year with a late goal sealing their fate this time.
Billy Jeffrey’s side looked the more likely to grab a winner. But their hearts were broken by their Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division opponents in the 88th minute when Adam Griffin scooped the ball home.
Banbury had been left rueing their luck midway through the first half when Adam Learoyd saw his effort hit the underside of the bar in the FA Cup 1st qualifying round.
The loose ball fell to Joe Coleman, whose effort was tipped over the bar for another corner by Chippenham goalkeeper Ian Gill.
Banbury were not to be denied though and they took the lead in the 36th minute when Marvin Martin curled the ball over the defence to Jason Taylor, coming in at the far post.
Although his first effort was saved by Gill, he netted at the second attempt.
Delroy Gordon then saw his dipping shot just clear the bar.
Against the run of play, Chippenham equalised in the 58th minute when Iain Harvey’s 20-yard shot found it’s way into the bottom corner of the net, past the despairing hand of the unsighted Joe Murrell.
Banbury were still the better side and looked the more likely to get the winner, but Griffin had the last word.
