SIX Bells C, Kidlington, were crowned Premier Section champions, despite losing 2-1 at home to Red Lion A Eynsham.
With their closest rivals, The Cricketers, losing 3-0 to The George, the one point the Six Bells gained was enough to give them the title for the first time, with one game to go.
The Red Lion set and won the opening leg 28-27, but Six Bells came back with a bang in the next leg with a set of 37 to Red Lion’s reply of 27.
Red Lion then won the game in the final leg 33-27 but the point Six Bells gained proved to be enough.
Steve Ward top-scored with 13 dolls (4-6-3) while Lee Thompson was top dog for The Red Lion with 14 (6-5-3).
Red Lion’s win keeps them two points clear in Section 1.
The George found form at the wrong time for The Cricketers as they whitewashed them 3-0 at home.
George won the opening leg 31-28 with The Cricketers setting 32 in the next leg.
George replied steadily, but still left their last two men 11 to win.
Steve Walton stepped up to clang off all six dolls, leaving anchor man Willy Waite to whip off the five needed to snatch the leg by the odd doll.
George then took maximum points in the final leg, 30-25, with Walton hitting another six to give him a 17-doll haul (5-6-6).
Philip Adams struck a steady 5-5-5 for The Cricketers.
Garsington Sports Club lostground in Section 1 after losing 2-1 at home to The Three Pigeons.
They won the first leg 30-27, but Three Pigeons stepped up a gear in the next two legs, taking them 31-27, 36-24.
Leading doll scorer Neil Lyon hit 16 dolls (5-6-5) for the Pigeons while Barry Ruffels was top dog for Garsington with 14 (5-4-5).
Austin Atkinson was in awesome form for New Club A as he bagged himself a six in his 16 dolls (5-6-5), but they still lost 2-1 to The Gladiators.
Len Brandon played a true anchor man’s role as Six Bells Quarry came away from New Club B with a 2-1 win in Section 2.
New Club set every leg and won the first one 17-16 and then set 23 in the second.
After a slow reply, Brandon was left needing five to win the leg. He missed with his first stick, but clanged off the next five to give them the leg by the odd doll. Six Bells then won the final leg 21-16.
Black Swan’s Dave Green was in top form with 14 dolls (6-4-4) as they defeated The Woodman 3-0.
Kevin Stuart bagged himself a brace of sixes (4-6-6) for Red Lion as they won 3-0 at Cowley Workers. Leading doll scorer Billy Trinder threw well for his 15 dolls 5-6-4.
In Section 5, Ampleforth Arms lead a chasing pack by one point after beating the Golden Ball 2-1.
Hot on their heels are Vikings who beat Red Lion Garsington 3-0. Kevin Masterson led the way with a dozen dolls (5-5-2).
- IN atrocious conditions, Andy Beal, from Six Bells Kid-lington, and Philip Adams, from The Cricketers, won the Oxford singles semi-finals.
Beal beat Mick Berry, from Red Lion Eynsham, while Adams beat Steve Walton (The George).
They will now meet in the final at Roman Way on October 22.
