A brilliant spell of spin-bowling from Luke Ryan could not prevent Banbury ending their Division 1 campaign with a 29-run defeat in a low-scoring Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League match at Radlett on Saturday Left-armer Ryan captured 6-44 as Banbury shot out the hosts for 144.
At one stage, it looked like being much less, but a ninth-wicket stand of 49, dominated by Heath Paynter, was to prove crucial.
Apart from opener Ian Tew, the early Banbury batsmen collapsed and they slumped to 51-6.
Despite dogged resistance , and a last-wicket stand of 26, Banbury could muster only 115.
Stuart Browne and Kabir Todd did the damage, taking nine wickets between them.
