Oxford City's City's Nathan Douglas sealed his place in next month's European Championships in Gothenburg with second place in the Norwich Union European Trials & UK/AAA Championships at Manchester's Sport City arena yesterday.
The defending champion, who lost out to his great revival Phillips Idowu, makes the plane for Sweden next month as he has already achieved the Elite standard set by UK Athletics.
Idowu produced a world-class leap of 17.50m, in the first round his only valid jump of the competition.
Douglas, who won the title last year with a jump of 17.64m, leaped out to 16.99.
Meanwhile, former Banbury Harrier Perriss Wilkins finished seventh with a throw of 53.21m.
