Red Lion Brill claimed the Section 3 title – despite losing 2-1 at Vikings Club on one of the wettest nights for many years, writes ANDY BEAL.

Needing a point to be champions, Red Lion set 19 in the first leg.

Vikings anchor man Robin Charlton was left four to win, and after missing with his first stick he clanged off the next four.

Vikings then took a 2-0 lead, winning the next leg 19-14.

But Red Lion hit back to take the last 25-17 to claim the point they needed to be champions.

Barry Williams (5-5-5) top-scored with 15 dolls, but still ended up on the losing side as Kidlington Sports B lost out 2-1 to Tiddington Cricket Club.

After the first two legs were shared, the final leg was tied 20-20 with Tiddington winning it on three sticks.

Dick Brownsill (3-5-5) was top dog for Tiddington with 13 dolls.

Quarry Gate B’s Nigel Debanks hit his first six in his dozen dolls as his side beat Garsington Sports B 2-1.

Lewis Johnson hit a six for Garsington.

Premier Section leaders Six Bells Kidlington beat Chequers 3-0.

Steve Ward (5-4-5) led the way with 14 dolls in the leg scores of 31-23, 24-21, 31-23.

Its still all to play for in Section 4.

Leaders Red Lion B Eynsham had a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Chequers with a 18-15, 15-14, 23-17 leg scoreline.

Second-placed Cricketers A Littleworth matched them with a 3-0 win at Chandos Arms, but the scoreline was much closer than it suggests.

Cricketers took the first leg 19-13, but tied the next two legs 17-17, winning both on three-stick shoot-outs.

Fairview Inn’s Section 5 title ambitions fell apart with a 3-0 defeat at home to Vikings Sports A, which puts the victors right back in the hunt.

Steve Trinder and Kevin Masterson both hit ten dolls.

Kennington Social Club stay top of Section 6 despite losing 2-1 at home to Quarry Gate A.

Graham Morton (4-5-5) led the way for Quarry Gate with 14 dolls as they won the first two legs 23-15, 20-17.

The last was tied 15-15, with Kennington grabbing a point on three sticks.

Nelson B capitalised on Kennington’s loss by coming away from Kidlington Sports Club with a 3-0 victory.

They easily won two of the legs 19-13, 20-11, but had to rely on three sticks after tying the middle one 15-15. Vikings C’s Ian Gardiner (4-6-4) clanged off 14 dolls in a 2-1 win at the White Hart in Section 7.

Section 8 leaders the Nut Tree beat second-placed the Queens 2-1.

Dean Fitzgerald (5-2-5) top-scored for the Queens with 12 dolls.

Lowly Fairview Inn B shocked the Folly Bridge with a 2-1 away win.

Masons Arms crashed to a 2-1 home defeat against the Cricketers A Cowley. Bob Ellis ((4-5-3) threw well for his 12 dolls.

Six Bells A Kidlington’s Paul Burton posted his first sixer in his ten dolls as his side beat Chandos Arms 2-1.

After losing the first leg 12-11, Six Bells won the next two 14-9 and 20-14.
