Oxford City 0

Brackley Town 2

(Appiah 15, Storey 39)

Oxford City are still seeking their first Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division win of the season after defeat by Brackley Town at Court Place Farm yesterday.

The loss sees City slip into the bottom two – and if it was not for Weymouth having been deducted points for going into administration they would be at the foot of the table.

City’s Craig McIlwain headed over a free-kick from Harry Harding early on.

But chances then fell to Brackley with Owen Storey driving a shot over, before Franny Green had an effort saved by Richard Knight.

However, Brackley made the breakthrough when Chris Willmott’s ball forward found Kwesi Appiah in space, and he had time to slot past Knight. Tom Winters shot wide for Brackley and then fired a free-kick past the far post.

City fell further behind when Storey headed home Winter’s centre.

City showed more commitment in the second half.

James Clarke surged into the Brackley area, but was denied by a last-ditch tackle by Joe Magunda.

Green headed over Magunda’s cross late on, but Brackley were content to sit on their lead as they secured their first win of the season.
