Brightwell angler Luke Ayling had a terrific catch of barbel from a private stretch of the Kennet.
He started fishing at first light and went on all day, finishing with no fewer than 17 barbel, including five doubles, the best weighing 15lb.
He used Pallatrax Crucian boilies, using a bait dropper to deposit a mixture of particles.
He also caught two big chub of 6lb and 7lb.
l COLIN Purvey, from Oxford, has been in touch to say how much he enjoyed the free fly fishing lessons at Farmoor Reservoir last Saturday.
He writes: “I was made very welcome by Tom Sherwood, an officer from the Evironment Agency, and Farmoor ranger Royston Maxwell.
“Later on, I fished with Ian Horrocks, from the Oxfordshire Association of Young People .
“Also supporting the day was the Angling Development Board and Thames Water.
“I am 65 years old and have fished all my life, but I’ve never been fly fishing. I am now going to try it.”
