MP SPORTS CHERWELL LEAGUE - Graham Scott's Match of the Day
Horspath were crowned champions of the MP Sports Cherwell League for the first time in their history after they beat Cumnor by 101 runs on Saturday.
The result was never in doubt once Ned Murray had compiled an impressive 102, Robbie Eason stroked 48 and Jehan Mohammed blasted an unbeaten 49 to take their side to 255-3.
Cumnor looked disheartened after the break, collapsing to 74-7 before Miles Hammond put up some resistance with a defiant 43.
But the title was Horspath’s when he was bowled by off-spinner Paul Jeacock and the visitors were all out for 154.
Horspath have led the table since June 12 and never looked like being caught.
They have beaten every side in the division at some stage except Great & Little Tew.
Tew escaped with a draw on the opening day in May and were the only opponents to have the better of a match with Horspath when the sides drew again last month.
Expertly led by skipper Eason, the champions’ success has been built around their impressive strength in depth.
This suggests they could prosper next year in the Home Counties Premier League.
Horspath 25pts, Cumnor 3
