Oxford bookmaker Richard Dunn, of RD Racing, has called for more open races to be staged on Thursdays.

He and his colleagues reported improved turnover and attendances as the men on the rails sponsored the opens recently.

However, they didn't win, but broke even, even though some hefty four-figure bets were laid.

The bookmakers are willing to help with the sponsorship to secure prestigious competitions such as the Gold Collar.
