West Ham are hopeful that if they win tomorrow's Premier League home game against Bolton, Tuesday's Carling Cup tie against Oxford could be close to a sell-out.
Hammers owners David Sullivan and David Gold are doing their best to increase attendances at Upton Park by dropping ticket prices.
They are operating kid for a quid tomorrow, and have dropped prices to £10 for adults and £5 for children next week.
"If we get a win on Saturday, we are hoping for a big gate Tuesday," said a Hammers spokesman.
When asked if he could put a figure on what that gate could be, he replied: “We are hoping for a sell-out.”
United are guaranteed a minimum amount from the tie, based on what would be a ‘decent’ gate, but a ‘big’ attendance would greatly swell their coffers.
UNITED fullback Ben Purkiss stepped up his preparations for the new season with a trip to Andy’s Barber Shop in Bicester this week.
The former York City defender, who continued his return from injury in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Southend Res, set about increasing his sharpness by stopping at the Sheep Street shop for a style and shave.
Andy Willis, owner and long-time United supporter, was happy to lend a steady hand as the squad look to turn on the style against Wycombe tomorrow.
“We were delighted to have Ben with us,” he said. “Everybody involved with the shop is a massive supporter of Oxford United.”
