Neil Rowlands, Chipping Norton's director of golf, shot the lowest round of the day in the televised Trilby Professional Final at the Buckinghamshire, but missed out on the £10,000 first prize.
His four-under-par round of 66 put him ahead of European Tour stars, Phil Archer, Phil Golding and Scott Drummond, but only qualified him for a winner-takes-all shoot-out over three holes.
In front of a large crowd and the BSkyB cameras, Rowlands parred the first play-off hole, which was birdied by Archer, Golding and club professional Tom Reid.
At the the next hole – a 310-yard hole with a 280-yard carry over water – Rowlands knocked it on to the green, while his felow competitors laid up.
But he three-putted from 40 feet, while his rivals birdied again.
Rowlands was eliminated after the third hole, with Reid eventually winning a sudden death play-off to collect the £10,000 prize pot, a clothing contract with William Hunt and a playing contract with Callaway.
Emily White and Shaun Kench, from Chipping Norton, just missed out on an all-expenses paid trip to Portugal for the final of The Douglas Bader Charity Tournament.
Their 41 points secured them second place in the regional qualifier at North Down GC.
The winners went through with 43 points.
