Bicester brother and sister Mitchell and Hollie Roberts will be heading off to Cluj in Romania next month where they will represent England in the European Cup.

It follows their success at the World Union of Karate Federations (WUKF) 3rd Cadet and junior world championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Hollie, 15, struck gold in the individual kata category with victory over her Italian rival.

She then went on to grab two more golds in the female team kumite (fighting) sanbon and female team kumite rotation events.

Meanwhile, Mitchell, 16, reached the final of the individual kata category.

But he had to be content with a silver medal after losing out by the narrowest margin possible to an Italian opponent.

Mitchell then went on to take bronze in the male team kata event.

The competition was spr-ead over three days with Mitchell and Hollie competing on all three days.

It was a great achievement by the pair, especially in the kata where previously the best any England competitor had achieved at the world championships was a bronze medal.

In addition, England’s me-dal haul of six gold, two silver and six bronze medals represented the best results since 1996.
