Headington A ended a 30-year wait by being crowned champions of the Oxford & District League, sponsored by Yarnton Nurseries, for a second time.

Their 6-0 thrashing of Banbury Chestnuts sealed the title triumph they have chased since winning the first championship in 1980.

It also breaks the six-year stanglehold of Banbury Central, who finish as runners-up.

The ‘Manor’ boys did it in style, clocking up five centuries and a shot difference of 400 with a game still to play.

Captain Nick Rae-Welsh said: “It’s a great league to play in and it has taken us a long time to beat Central, but everyone has kept going and worked as team to eventually do it.”

Headington’s victory also sees Chestnuts relegated.

Witney Mills need a point to clinch the Division 2 title after a 6-0 win over Kidlington.

Cotswold are relegated after a 5-1 home defeat by Thame.

Watlington clinched the Division 4 title with a 5-1 win over Hanborough.

West Oxford confirmed their promotion by beating South Oxford B 4-2.
