MP SPORTS CHERWELL LEAGUE - Graham Scott's Match of the Day

Great & Little Tew all but ended Shipton-under-Wychwood’s hopes of pulling off a rare double of winning Division 1 and the npower Village Cup on Saturday.

Tew prevailed by four wickets in a game that ebbed and flowed throughout, and so increased their own chances of securing their best finish to a league season.

Although they are far from being a one-man team, Tew's successes this season have invariably been inspired by Aussie Anthony Smith, and this weekend's success was no exception.

First he took 6-59 with his rapid seamers as Shipton were bowled out for 212, then Smith struck 62 runs in his side's successful run chase.

The visitors, who had been asked to bat first, were indebted to century-maker Simon Hole, who scored almost half their runs.

The energetic Chris Panter bowled with great purpose to claim 3-30 from 11 overs after tea.

Although Tew wobbled for a while, Edmund Gross held his nerve to remain unbeaten on 87 when victory was achieved in the 47th over.

Rob Garrett returned to see out victory alongside Gross after dislocating a finger while fielding in Shipton’s innings.
