MP SPORTS CHERWELL LEAGUE - Div 2

Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts need 43 points from a possible 100 to guarantee the title after they saw off Tiddington by 32 runs in a tightly-fought contest.

Nondies were well set on 148-4 from 43 overs when rain stopped play, but promptly collapsed to 178 all out in the 52nd over.

Nick Harrison top-scored with 52, while Nick Pykett took 4-39.

Nondies’ quickie Ed Oakley then took 4-53 as wickets fell at regular intervals in the hosts’ 146 all out.

Banbury Twenty tumbled to a seven-wicket reverse at Wolverton Town, who climbed off the bottom for the first time this season despite being docked two points for their slow over rate.

Town started the season on minus 50 points due to onfield misdemeanours last summer, but may yet avoid the drop if only one team is relegated from each division, as seems likely.

Swing bowler Andy Gosling took 5-64 from 21 overs as Twenty were all out for 130 after chosing to bat.

Jamil Raja followed up his 3-9 with an unbeaten 45 as the hosts cruised to 132-3.

Danny Hartley took 4-32 from 14 overs and Paul White 4-39 from 15.2 as the hosts were all out for 94.

Earlier Vale had posted 190-8 thanks to Will Barker’s 46 and Terry Groome’s 42, while Hanif Ali took 4-50.

Banbury 2nd are still in the promotion shake-up after they saw off second-placed Leighton Buzzard Town by 77 runs.

Eddie Phillips hit an impressive 102 and received invaluable support from opener Andrew Sabin (97) as Banbury reached 229-4 in a rain-reduced 49 overs.

Spinner Paul Hill took 6-30 from 9.2 overs as Leighton limped to 152 all out, despite Tom Light’s 31.

Rain prevented Sandford St Martin making the most of Leighton Buzzard’s defeat, as their match at Long Marston fizzled out into a tame draw.

Mike Lyons (67) and Harry Bowles (64) were the mainstays of Marston’s 178-8 from 40 overs, Chris Thompson claiming 4-36.

James Beesley, 15, took 4-10 from six overs to end Sandford’s hopes, and they closed on 68-5.
