Didcot Town have been dealt a blow after centre back Martin Brown rejoined his old club Thame United.

Brown joined the Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division outfit in 2008 from Brackley Town, having earlier had spells at Oxford City and Thame after starting his career at Abingdon Town.

He will link up with former City and Thame trio defender James Saulsbury, keeper Milan Barisic and striker Alex Stewart.

And he has decided to link-up with former teammate Mark West, the boss at the Hellenic League Premier Division newcomers.

It is thought his departure was prompted by the arrival of ex-Oxford City skipper Andy Gunn at Loop Meadow Stadium.

Didcot boss Stuart Peace said: “Martin trained with us once in pre-season, but hasn’t been back, so I assume he has left. I think when we signed Andy (Gunn) that made up his mind.

“He did terrifically well for us here, but we do have cover for him.

“We’ve now got Gunn, Alex Stanley, Andy Williams and possibly Lee Henderson, who is out injured at the moment, fighting for two centre back posititons.”

Didcot finished their programme with a 3-0 win at neighbours Wantage Town.

They took the lead after only 30 seconds when new signing from Flackwell Heath, Riccardo Cannon, bundled home.

Morgan Williams doubled their lead from Josh Dutton-Black’s excellent pass.

Victory was sealed late-on through triallist Gabi Osei.

Oxford City went down to a 2-0 defeat in their final pre-season friendly at Ryman Premier Division side Horsham.

City went a goal down to a Dean Wright strike before Jay Lovett sealed it after the break.

The closest City came to scoring was when new signing Filipe Barcelos’s shot was tipped onto the bar by keeper Mark Zawadski, before he later denied Elliot Sandy.

Banbury United completed their build-up to their Premier Division campaign with a 4-1 win against Leighton Town.

Jake Bewley chipped Joe Murrell in the Banbury goal to give Leighton the lead, before Declan Benjamin levelled with a neat finish.

Benjamin doubled his tally from the penalty spot after Scott Cross was fouled.

Cross then made it 3-0, before netting his second from the spot after Benjamin was brought down by Leighton’s substitute keeper Joe Cox.

Abingdon United strikerAnaclet Odhiambo kept up his excellent pre-season form since returning to the club with one of the goals in Saturday’s 3-1 victory against Premier Division outfit Swindon Supermarine.

Last-season’s top-scorer John Mills netted a double for Abingdon.

Odhiambo, 26, the former Didcot frontman, left Northcourt Road for the Hellenic League club last October, but returned at the end of last month to become one of new boss Richie Bourne’s most important summer captures.
