Aston Rowant slipped back into the Division 1 relegation when they went down by six wickets away to leaders Welwyn Garden City in a rain-shortened match.
Asked to bat first Rowant were doing well against the swinging ball and overcast conditions.
However the rain came when Aston Rowant were 100-4.
They lost 16 overs of their innings with the umpires setting a 50-40 over split.
Aaron Todd batted well for 58 before being run out in the last over.
Chris Watling played with great confidence before falling to a loose shot as they closed on 170-9.
Welwyn struggled early on, with Wes Morrick removing both former Middlesex and Oxfordshire all-rounder Jamie Hewitt and Matthew Hill cheaply.
However, a confident performance from Daniel Blacktopp and captain Aaron Laraman steered Welwyn home in the 38th over.
Rowant keeper Alex Jewell dislocated his finger and could be out for the rest of the season.
They face a a massive game next week against Radlett who sit one place above them.
