Captain Richard Cook and under 16 player Lloyd Sabin scored magnificent centuries as Oxfordshire Under 17s completed their two-day warm-up campaign with a 41-run victory over Northamptonshire at Oxford Downs.

The victory stretches Oxon's unbeaten start to the season to six matches – all of them victories.

Winning the toss, Cook had no hesitation in batting first, but the visitors made good use of the wicket early on as Oxon slumped to 58-4 before lunch, Northants left-arm bowler Christian Davies bowling a particularly good first spell.

But that brought Cook and Sabin together, and the pair shared in a tremendous 220-run partnership for the fifth wicket, during which Cook posted his highest score.

Sabin's ton was perhaps the more measured, his 117 coming from 169 balls with 17 boundaries, but Cook's was magnificent also as he hit five sixes and 16 boundaries at nearly a run a ball.

When Sabin fell, the score was 278-5, but Oxon weren’t finished, Cook and Snell shared 59 for the sixth wicket.

The only disappointment was that wickets fell quickly near the end, but Oxon were able declare before the end of the first day.

Although unable to find an early breakthrough, when it did arrive, midway through the first session on the second day, Oxon seized control.

Will Rooney was the pick of the seam attack with three wickets, while leg-spinner Richard Simpson and off-spinner Lloyd Sabin took two apiece.

Northants were reduced to 174-8, only for a superb ninth-wicket stand of 127 between Elliott Ruff and Sam Bold to hold them up.

But when Bold fell, Oxon wrapped up victory as Jack Stimpson took the final wicket for another superb win.
