Theale Lake, near Reading, was the venue for the latest Carp League 2010 match fished by 18, and although there were a lot of fish caught, it was very patchy, with the first three places coming from adjacent pegs.
Paul Dann took the honours, fishing pellet shallow at 11 metres for a net of carp weighing 164.14.0.
Mick Lane had 124.0.0 of carp, also on pellet, followed by Scott Miller (Predator) who fished paste at six metres.
The fishing at Ridgeway was spot-on for the 20 anglers in the Summer Carp 2010 match, where the top three all fished eight metres out and up in the water, alternating between meat and pellet.
Edward Weston triumphed with 72.12.0 of carp, while Fred Harrison fished only four hours of the match because he wanted to watch the football, but his 70.10.0 was enough for second.
Dean Bowerman returned 64.8.0 for third place.
The second round of this year’s Summer League was contested by nine teams of six, pegged on the Thames at Medley and Folly.
With the sun, heat and swimmers at Medley, fishing was not ideal, although it did produce all the top weights as bream dominated.
Pegged five below Godstow Lock, Martin Phipps (Drennan GOT Baits) caught skimmers and bream on pole-fished worm over groundbait and chop for a winning 39.9.0.
Mick Denton (Drennan GOT Baits) was by the fallen tree at the top end of the poplars and banked skimmers and bream on the feeder with worm and caster for a second-placed 28.4.0.
Also fishing the feeder with worm at Perch Bay, Andy Silvey (Fox Match Isis) weighed in 26.11.0 of bream and skimmers for third.
Team points: 1 Drennan GOT Baits 48, 2 Drennan Sensas & Fox Match Isis 45.
Oxford Bus AC were on ‘The School’ where the seven matchmen found the Cherwell very low.
Pete Clarke fished the pole midstream, switching between maggot and chop to catch perch and bleak for a winning 8.9.0.
George Kingston weighed in a few perch and bleak on worm and maggot for 3.10.0 for second, followed by Mark Heath an ounce behind, with bleak and perch on pole and worm.
Only five bothered to weigh in at Sutton Courtenay’s Ken Stevens Memorial fished by 13 on the Lower Moors.
Using a groundbait feeder and maggot, Bob Gosbee triumphed with 7.13.0 of bream and skimmers.
Ian Higgins took second with 5.8.0 of silver fish on pole and maggot, while Eamonn Capocci used chopped worm to catch perch for a third-placed 3.13.0.
The Thame at Wheatley was very low and did not fish well for the seven members in Oxford Waltonian’s English Cup.
Mick Baston was top man with 5.6.0 of bits on pole and maggot, while Paul Bowers used chopped worm to tempt 4.0.0 of perch for second.
Tony Gee (Acorn Angling) had 2.6.0 of bits on stick float, with maggot to complete the frame.
Benson were the hosts to the first Berks/Oxon match fished by 12 on their stretch of the Thames, and although it was hard work, everyone caught.
The first three all fished pole and maggots, Phil Ansell leading them home with 4.15.0 of small silver fish.
Tony Krason caught perch for a second-placed 4.5.0, followed by Laurence Budercheski with 2.3.0 of bits.
