Ashley Walton and Ben Paterson continued their successful summers by teaming up to win the BB&O Clubs Foursomes Championships at Studley Wood.
The consistent Walton and Frilford Heath Gold Medal winner Paterson took the scratch title by three shots.
Rounds of 74 and 73 saw the Frilford Heath pair finish clear of Burford’s Simon Hopkins and Bret Gaertner, who edged out Phil Cuthbert and Cliff Pearce (Ellesborough) for second.
Carswell pair Peter Clements and Andrew Thomas won the handicap title after nett rounds of 69.5 and 72.5.
They finished one shot ahead of Witney Lakes duo Kerr Drummond and Neil Clayton.
Organisers were also impressed with the speed of play, which may have had something to do with England playing Slovenia in the World Cup that afternoon!
Walton could not carry his good form into local final qualifying for The Open as he finished joint 40th on nine-over par at Scotscraig.
Witney’s Paul Simpson, the pro at West Berks, came joint 50th on nine-over-par at Fairmont St Andrews.
Former Frilford Heath player Martin Woodbridge, now at The Wisley, finished joint 28th on two-over-par at Ladybank.
But there was some good news for the BB&O region as Tyrell Hatton (Harleyford) made it through to St Andrews after coming joint first on six-under-par at Ladybank.
