Three Oxfordshire bowlers were unable to prevent England from relinquishing their title in the British Isles Women’s Championship at Woking.
Oxford City & County’s Katherine Hawes plus Banbury Central duo Carole Galletly and Caroline Campion were all part of winning rinks in the series.
But England finished third with Scotland claiming the title from Wales, with Jersey fourth and Ireland last.
Following England’s opening 117-101 defeat by Wales, in which Hawes and new cap Galletly featured in winning rinks, the host nation hit back with a 142-105 victory over Jersey.
Playing at No 2, Hawes was involved in a 27-20 win on the rink skipped by Huntingdonshire’s Catherine Popple.
Campion, at No 3 in the rink skipped by Huntingdonshire’s Pat Reynolds, featured in a 16-16 draw.
Galletly, leading the rink skipped by Lincolnshire’s Amy Monkhouse, went down 23-19.
All three Oxon bowlers met with defeat as England lost their third match to Scotland.
Hawes’s rink went down 30-11, Campion’s side fell 33-14, and Galletly’s four lost 17-12.
England finished in style with a 152-72 drubbing of Ireland.
Campion enjoyed her first success of the week, with her rink winning 21-7.
Gallelty’s side also triumphed in convincing fashion, 37-9.
But Hawes’s four went down 20-15.
