Oxfordshire may have suffered a humiliation of England football-like proportions against Cornwall last week, but there is much more to be positive about on the club scene.
With Aston Rowant and Thame Town both winning on Saturday, the possibility of having four Oxon sides playing at the highest level of club cricket increased.
Rowant’s victory over High Wycombe boosted their hopes of surviving in Division 1 of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League.
Thame, meanwhile, are making great strides to join them in the top flight after a fifth win in seven matches gave them a 31-point lead in Division 2 West.
Add to that Horspath flying high at the top of MP Sports Cherwell League Division 1, and the local picture looks fairly healthy.
Of course, the season only reaches its halfway point after Saturday’s matches, but there is no harm in being optimistic is there?
