Midfielder Jamie Cook has left Oxford United by mutual consent.
The 30-year-old forward rejoined United for £5,000 in September last year, a move funded by the fans’ 12th Man Fund, and scored three times in 16 starts.
One of those was a memorable long-range strike in the 2-0 win against Luton Town at the Kassam Stadium on September 8.
He also found the net in the next two home games he played at the Kassam Stadium as United thumped Eastbourne 4-0 and Grays 5-0.
But after scoring in the FA Cup at home to Barrow on November 28 and then disappointing in the replay in Cumbria, Cook managed just three more starts for the rest of the season.
In his first spell at United he scored seven goals in 77 appearances for the club between 1997 and 2001 after graduating from the youth set-up.
In between those spells at United, Cook played for Boston United, Stevenage, Witney United, Rushden & Diamonds and Crawley Town.
A club statement said with Cook’s first-team chances limited towards the end of last season, the club and the player had reached an agreement.
Last week, he was set for talks with old club Rushden and it was thought that Steve Evans was also interested in taking him back to Crawley, though the Witney-based player admitted when he re-joined Oxford that he was delighted not to have to commute along the M25 to Sussex anymore.
Meanwhile, United have announced ticket prices for their pre-season games against Leicester City and a Manchester United XI, on Saturday, July 24, and Tuesday, July 27 respectively.
Prices range from £12 to £17, but are better value if you book for both games by 6pm on Friday, July 23.
For example, an adult booking in advance for the Oxford Mail Stand for both games would save themselves £6, while an under 16 doing the same would effectively ‘buy one and get one free’.
Tickets can be booked online at www.oufctickets.co.uk or by calling the ticket office on 01865 337533.
Tickets are also on sale now for the Youth Development Benefit Game on Saturday, July 31, when the stars of the past, including Joey Beauchamp and Paul Moody take on a showbiz All Stars. Tickets are £10 for adults, £4 for under 16s and over 65s.
