Spinners Alex Davies and Max Mannering played a starring role as Oxfordshire posted an emphatic six-wicket victory over Bedfordshire in their ECB Under 13 Cup clash at Cokethorpe School.

The pair made the most of the pressure built up by fine opening spells from the seamers to turn the screw on Bedfordshire.

Having lost the toss, Oxfordshire bowled and fielded superbly to restrict the visitors to just 130-8 from their 40 overs.

Tom Costley and Sam Gillingham bowled with real venom from the off before first change Louis Pennington added to the pressure taking a wicket with the first ball of an excellent five-over spell in which he conceded just nine runs.

Davies and Mannering capatilised on the situation returning 3-24 and 2-12 respectively, leaving Bedfordshire at least 60 runs short of a competitive total.

In reply, opener Tom Condon threatened to take the game away from the visitors from the start as he crashed the first three deliveries of the innings for boundaries.

When he departed for 22, in only the third over, Oxfordshire were well on the way to victory.

Despite losing their second wicket with just 38 on the board James Fitzjohn, Connor Tinsley and the impressive Joel Washbourne-Calcutt (44no) guided Oxfordshire home with 11 overs to spare.
