Hannah England believes she is ready for the next step as she prepares for this weekend’s European trials in Birmingham.
The Oxford City ace, who finished a brilliant second for Great Britain in last Sunday’s European Team Championships, says she’s ready to put the disappointment of missing out on last year’s World Championships behind her.
Three spaces are up for grabs for the 1500m, and England, who has already achieved the qualifying standard, knows that a good performance in Birmingham would seal her place in the team for the European Championships in Barcelona next month.
She said: “I’m just trying to keep calm and stay focused, just as I have the last two years.
“Last year I wouldn’t have put myself in the mix, but I feel I’m getting there and I just hope it works this year.
“I didn’t think I’d be any more determined than I was last year to qualify, but I think I am. It’s just such an honour to be selected for Great Britain and that’s motivation in itself.”
England could not be in much better form ahead of this weekend’s trials.
Her second place in the European Team Championships in Bergen came off the back of her clocking an A qualifying time in Warsaw two weeks ago.
Her time in Bergen was just a fraction slower than that, but finishing second to Ukrainian Anna Mishchenko represented one of her finest results in a British vest.
“It was a pretty fast race from the onset, which is unusual for a meeting like that.
“But I was prepared for it and stayed in contention.
“I think I ran pretty well and Anna beat me by a second ten days earlier, and less this time, so I’m going in the right direction.”
