Oxfordshire finished runners-up for the second year running in the Midlands South Division of Women’s County Week at Goring & Streatley.
After losing their opening match against defending champions Warwickshire, Oxon had to win the remaining four matches, but fell to eventual winners Northants.
Oxon’s 5-4 defeat to Warwickshire included singles wins for Tilly Magill and Sam Round (both Oxfordshire affiliated), plus halves for Laura Watkins (Bicester) and Annie Gowing (Frilford Heath).
They replied with a 6-3 victory over Herefordshire & Worcestershire, with Katherine O’Connor (Tadmarton Heath), Magill, Abi Laker (Burford) their singles successes.
Oxon beat Buckinghamshire 7-2 with Round and Magill, O’Connor and Laker and Jane Binning (Frilford Heath) and Justine Voss (Henley) winning their foursomes.
Binning, Laker, O’Connor and Voss added singles successes.
The 5½-3½ defeat to Northants saw foursomes wins from from O’Connor and Lauren Jupp (Studley Wood) and Magill and Round. Round gained Oxon’s only singles success, with Voss adding a half.
They closed with a 5½-3½ victory over Berkshire, with Jupp and debutant Lydia Fox (Studley Wood) and Binning and Voss bagging foursomes wins.
Jupp, rookie Gemma Clements (Studley Wood) and Watkins claimed singles successes, with Fox adding a half.
