Quarterback Jay Taylor threw two touchdown passes as Oxford Saints got back to winning ways with a 19-3 victory at BAFA Community League South West Conference Division 1 new boys Leicester Falcons.
In hot and humid conditions, the opening exchanges were dominated by the defences, with Oxford coming closest to breaking the deadlock when Adam Newman’s 32-yard field goal was blocked.
The Falcons went in front with a field goal from Andrew Plant for a 3-0 lead.
Saints came out fired up for the second half, with Taylor powering his way over for their first touchdown, Adam Newman missing the chance of the extra point.
Taylor then set up Kyle Micallef for a 14-yard touchdown, with the subsequent kick missed.
And Taylor was at it again when his long pass found Newman, who barged his way into the end zone for the killer score, Phil Gouldie putting over the kick to give Saints a 19-3 lead.
Saints then eased home for their fifth win of the season.
On Sunday, Saints are in action when they take on the Nottingham Caesars at Abingdon Rugby Club (KO 2.30pm).
