Oxfordshire's chairman of selectors, Alan Crossley, has ruled out wholesale changes after their ten-wicket humiliation against Cornwall.

Crossley said their Minor Counties Championship Western Division defeat, which came inside two days at Falmouth, had been desperate.

But he remains convinced Oxon have a strong batting line-up who can bounce back if they tackle some technical flaws.

“We are pretty happy with who we have got, but certainly not happy with being rolled over like that,” said Crossley.

“It is evident that they have got to work on their game, but there is not going to be a mass head-rolling.

“You have got to say are there better people knocking on the door? There may be, but a lot of selection depends on availability.

“People like Jack Taylor and Michael Beard are in contention, but have had exams.

“Whatever happened, this wasn’t to do with complacency about players being selected.

“It was one of the most desperate scores for a long, long time, but these things happen.

“We will have to regroup for the next game at Great Tew.”

Oxon made just 104 and 115 in their two innings at Falmouth to leave Cornwall needing 16 runs in their second innings to secure victory, which they did in 1.2 overs.

Crossley stressed: “We probably have the best batting side we have had in a good few years.

“We can bat down to No 10 and chase down big scores on a flat track, but we have just got to work on dealing with the moving ball.

“Our best batsman, Rob Williams, had to drop out and we missed Damian Shirazi, who is a good player of the moving ball.

“The pitch had some uneven bounce and the ball kept moving about, but there are no excuses. It was a batting failure really.

“At least three batsmen holed out with a precision that takes some beating.”

Crossley added: “The lads are extremely disappointed as we have got a good side.

“We didn’t bowl very well either. We had them 155-9 and then allowed their last-wicket pair to put on 49.

“It showed that if you cut out daft shots it wasn’t that bad a wicket.

“We were unable to get back into the game after day one.

“If we had got 250 in the second innings, we would have had something to bowl at.”
