MP Sports Cherwell League - Graham Scott's Match of The Day
Veteran left-arm seamer Trevor Spindler took 9-41 to bowl Wallingford to victory at Bicester & North Oxford in Division 4 on Saturday.
All the batsmen who face Spindler know what to expect: he bowls gentle in-swingers at no great pace, with some deliveries going straight on or slightly away. But almost 200 have fallen victim to him over the past five seasons.
In that time, Spindler has bowled almost 1,000 overs, as Wallingford make the most of a league rule that places no limit on each bowler’s allocation.
Spindler proved too good for Bicester’s under-strength batting line-up.
Nick Moorman hit five fours in his 33, but was first to go with the score on 39 and his teammates then succumbed for 129.
The visitors were reduced to 36-4 in reply, but opener Lee Ainsworth (91no) held his nerve, while Ian Saunders hit a painfully slow 18 from 81 balls to steer his side to victory without further loss.
