WILLIAM Polito hit 72 not out, only for a late downpour to deny Oxfordshire Under 11s the chance of victory in their friendly against Buckinghamshire at Challow & Childrey.

Polito’s knock saw Oxon to 173-6 from their 45 overs, and the visitors were close to defeat at 136-9 when the heavens opened to force the players off.

There were four run-outs in Oxfordshire’s innings.

Oxon’s bowling was a bit wayward at first, but they quickly found their rhythm to seize control.

After a fifth run out of the day, James Dingwall, Aswan Ahmed and Jacob Mayers took two wickets apiece to put Oxon on course.

Oxon’s cause was helped by some excellent fielding, with James Palmer taking two fine catches and Polito a third.

But with Oxon needing only one wicket to secure the victory, the rains came to Bucks’ rescue as a downpour forced an early finish.
