Just as England and the USA shared the spoils in their World Cup clash, it was honours even between Oxford United and Seacoast United in their Anglo-American battle.
The clubs have a strong link, forged by U’s chairman Kelvin Thomas and his connection with America.
And United’s academy side beat their American rivals 3-1 in the first of three games at Oxford’s training ground in Chesterton, but were defeated by the same scoreline in the second.
That set it up nicely for the decider on Wednesday night, and it finished 1-1, with Connor McDonagh netting the opener for United, to leave the series all-square.
Paul Willis, of Seacoast, said: “When Oxford won at Wembley there were plenty of cheers on the other side of the Atlantic.
“The trip has been a great experience and we look forward to building the links between our clubs.”
