Oxford's Nick Taylor scored his first hole-in-one – and won a brand new car worth almost £30,000.
Taylor, a 24-handicapper, aced the par three 12th hole at Radyr in Cardiff during the SET Office Supplies Golf Day and won the Audi A5.
“I knew about the prize of an Audi A5 and joked with my wife, Kim, that I would go home with a new car,” he said.
“I knew immediately what I had done – the Audi was parked right next to the green.
“My tee shot flew to the back of the green and then rolled back into the hole.
“I could scarcely believe what I had done and the rest of my round was a blur.
“It’s the first time I have ever scored a hole-in-one. I’m far from a top golfer and play off 24, which maybe makes this even more special.”
Taylor’s hole-in-one left him with a problem he didn’t mind at all. Suddenly, he had two cars at Radyr.
“I drove to Radyr in my BMW – and then I had two cars when it came to going home,” said Taylor who works for print manufacturers Brother UK.
Neil Griffiths, managing director of SET, said: “It was unbelievable. We’ve been running this tournament for 11 years and never had a hole-in-one before.
“To hit a hole-in-one is special and to do that on the only hole where there is the prize of a car is astonishing.
“We insured ourselves in case somebody won the car, just as we have every year.
“Now, for the first time, our insurers have to pay up.”
