Banbury finished third in the England Mixed finals weekend after thrashing Cheltenham 5-1.
But they will be kicking themselves they didn’t make the final.
So they had to face Cheltenham in the third/fourth play-off after losing 2-1 against Staines in the semis.
Banbury went ahead when Josh Nunneley rifled home from the first short corner.
They doubled their lead when Nunneley grabbed a second, before Cheltenham pulled one back.
After the break, Vicky Page and Lara Wilkinson made it 4-1 before Page capped her player-of-the-match display with her second.
Against Staines, Banbury were forced onto the back foot, but when they got their game going were let down by poor finishing.
And they were made to pay when Staines took a 2-0 lead.
Banbury dominated the second half, but a strike from Irvine two minutes from time was all they had to show for their efforts.
Meanwhile, Bicester Mixed 2nd went down to a 1-0 defeat against Adastral in the Gladiator Cup Tournament.
The hosts started well with Ruth Thomas and Grace Julier going close.
After the break Adastral turned up the pressure and ten minutes from time grabbed the winner.
Bicester were unable to fashion a leveller.
