Thame’s self-confessed adrenalin junkie Neil Scarborough cemented his place at the top of the Powerboat P1 SuperStock Championship leaderboard with a determined victory at the Galway Grand Prix of the Sea in Ireland.
Racing in front of crowds in excess of 90,000 as part of the eight-day Galway Powerboat Festival, Scarborough’s Premier Cru outfit kept up its 100 per cent start to the season with another Grand Prix of the Sea victory in the UK’s most exciting new motorsport’s, 150 Class.
Despite being pipped by less than a boat’s length by Eclipse in Monday’s third and final race of the nautical extravaganza, Scarborough’s two emphatic wins over the weekend.
Coupled with Monday’s runner-up spot, the results saw saw Premier Cru extend its lead at the top of the standings by 23-points from the Eclipse all-female racing team.
Powering along at speeds of up to 60 mph in choppy Atlantic Ocean conditions alongside co-pilot John Wilson, Scarborough said: “I’m delighted with the win.
“The team was extremely confident coming off the back of our win in Penzance two weeks ago, but it’s been a fantastic three days of competition and a great advert for powerboat racing.
“Racing in front of the huge crowds was exhilarating.
“It was disappointing not to make it a clean sweep throughout the weekend.
“But Rose Lores drove the race of her life on Monday, so we’ll settle for five-out-of-six race victories to start the season.”
