The Oxford Super League got under way with a practice match held on the Kennet and Avon Canal, at Bedwyn.
A big field of 54 fished, and the canal, although below par, still provided a decent match.
Recent Diawa Gordon League addition Chris Telling topped the field from peg one at Frog Lane with 14.0.0. This consisted of five big skimmers to 2lbs, plus bits.
Paul Passmore was second from Roadside with 11.6.0 of mainly skimmers, but the smaller variety.
A big skimmer and a decent perch, plus a few bits, gave Martin Phipps (Drennan GOT Baits) third place with 10.10.0.
Fourth was Neil Richards from Swindon Colmic with 10.4.0 of skimmers, while the last frame spot went to Micky Ellyatt (Drennan GOT Baits) with 9.11.0.
The second points match in the Masons AC Club League was fished at Stable Lake, Kirtlington, where water levels are extremely low.
That didn’t worry the winner Ade Painton, who fished poled paste over pellets for a mainly carp net of 87.0.0.
In second spot was Nick Newitt, who used the same tactics for 75.8.0, followed by Gary Pether, who alternated between paste and cat meat for 66.8.0.
Fourteen anglers fished, with five failing to weigh in.
Kennington’s Les Hill finished runner-up in the latest round of the Carp League 2010 at Roodashdon, Trowbridge.
He recorded 58.12.0 of carp on the pole, fishing corn at 8m.
Top spot went to Swindon’s Phil Powell, who weighed in 72.8.0 of carp. He spent three hours fishing on the method feeder, before switching to the pole for the last two hours.
Andy Wiffen (RS Baits) was third with 55.8.0 of carp on method feeder to the island.
North Oxford AS fished a club match on the Oxford Canal at King’s Bridge, where a lot of boats made life difficult for the 14 anglers.
Kenny Clark grabbed top spot with 5.2.0 of silver fish on chopped worm, followed by John Coleman with 4.0.2 and Jason Bean with 2.0.8.
