Mark Wolton won the BB&O’s Beaumont Pease Trophy on his home course at Tadmarton Heath.
The four-handicapper carded two nett rounds of 65 to win by five strokes from Steve Welfare (Buckingham), while Frilford Heath’s Ashley Walton finished second in the Harold King Cup for scratch scores.
Wolton’s showing was the lowest nett total for 13 years, and also saw him finish fourth in the Harold King standings as his club won three of the nine prizes on offer.
Tadmarton’s Jonathan Burman was third in the Beaumont Pease Trophy on countback after scoring 137, while clubmate Chris Lowe’s 67 was the best afternoon nett round.
Walton led the Harold King Cup by one stroke after a first-round 67, but was edged into second by Stoke Park’s Steve Barwick, who finished on 135 – one ahead of Walton.
Scottish junior international Sandy Bolton (Goring & Streatley) was one further shot behind in third, while Frilford’s Ben Paterson was fifth on 141.
- KATHERINE O’Connor was the leading local player in the Frilford Heath Scratch Salver.
The 20-year-old Tadmarton Heath member finished third after rounds of 75 on the Red Course and 71 on the Green Course gave her a 146 total.
O’Connor was three shots adrift of winner Harriet Key (South Herts), while Bicester’s Laura Watkins came joint fifth on 149.
Frilford’s Jane Binning was three shots further adrift in ninth, with clubmate Annie Gowing carding 153.
O’Connor followed this up with a joint-14th finish in the Irish Women’s Open Strokeplay Championship at Newlands, Dublin.
- EDDIE Pepperell finished joint 15th in the St Andrew’s Links Trophy after a disappointing final round.
The Drayton Park member was just three shots off the lead after 54 holes, but slipped back following a one-over-par 73.
Pepperell’s rounds of 70, 71, 70 and 73 gave him a respectable four-under-par total of 284.
- OXFORD City member John Allen and professional David Cook have reached the regional final of the Virgin Atlantic PGA National Pro-Am Championship.
They will tee it up at Frilford Heath on June 25 after 12-handicapper Allen won City’s qualifier with 45 Stableford points.
