Oxford MCCU wicket-keeper Richard Coughtrie has signed a professional contract with Gloucesteshire.
The second-year Oxford Brookes student has signed with the first-class county until the end of 2010 after impressing former England gloveman Jack Russell.
Oxford MCCU head coach Graham Charlesworth said: “I’m delighted for Richard – he’s worked very hard and has developed a good understanding with Jack Russell, Gloucestershire clearly rate him.
“The situation has worked well for both parties – they know we look after him during the academic year and we know he’s getting top specialised coaching from one of the country’s finest keepers.
“With many counties under financial pressure at the moment, employing MCCU players on summer contracts is an excellent option – both economically and to support home-grown talent.”
Coughtrie’s Oxford MCCU teammates have also been knocking on counties’ doors.
Jak Martin and Ed Young have been playing for Kent 2nd XI, while Duncan Bradshaw and Dan Conway have turned out for Northants 2nds.
