Edward Wilson set a North Oxon Schools Athletics Trials record with victory in a superb javelin competition at Horspath Road, Oxford.
Wilson (Blessed George Napier, Banbury) threw 47.47m in the junior boys’ competition, which was well beyond the national standard distance.
It saw him beat Redford Curtis (Cokethorpe, Witney), who himself broke the old record and achieved a national entry with 44.57m,with Wilson’s brother, James,(Blessed George Napier)third with 34.14m.
Curtis’s older brother, Freddy, broke the intermediate boys’ javelin record with a national standard 59.57m.
It completed a double for the Cokethorpe youngster after he had cleared 1.65m to win the high jump.
Blessed George Napier’s Jennie Weston was the third record-breaker at the meeting, leaping a national standard distance of 5.20m in the junior girls’ long jump.
However, it was a close run thing as Hayley Perrin (Bartholomew, Eynsham) almost snatched victory with her last jump of 5.18m.
Weston was completing a double, having won the javelin with a county standard throw of 28.96m.
Perrin, meanwhile, took the 200m in a county standard time of 26.9secs, which was only 0.5 off a national qualifying mark.
Tory Mobley and Lucy Pollock made it a one-two for Tudor Hall, Banbury, in the 800m, both achieving county standards of 2mins 23.8secs and 2.28.7 respectively.
In the intermediate girls’ competition, Connie McMillan (Warriner, Bloxham) won the 300m and the 800m with two county standards.
Her 800m time of 2.17.7 was just 0.7 outside a national qualifying mark.
Verity Shayler (Wood Green, Witney) did the sprint double, taking the 100m in 13.2 and the 200m in 27.1.
Tudor Hall’s Cosima Berry won the high jump with an entry standard of 1.65m, while Bloxham’s Rebecca Joyce took the long jump by 2cm with a leap of 4.59m.

Runner-up Liam Grievson (North Oxfordshire Academy) gained his revenge in the 200m, claiming victory in 24.8 with Clayton back in third.
