Tiddington sprang a big surprise when they knocked out Horspath by six wickets in the Oxfordshire quarter-finals of the npower Village Cup at the Recreation Ground.

Horspath, county runners-up for the last four years and seen by many as favourites to go one better this year, made a solid start after winning the toss with openers Joey Todd (60) and captain Robbie Eason (40) putting on 94 for the first wicket.

But once they were parted the innings stalled against spinners Nick Pykett (3-39) and Matt Maule (1-36), who held the Cherwell League Division 1 high-fliers to 205-8 from their 40 overs.

Mohsin Habib (50no) and Jon Talbot, with an unbeaten 45 off 39 balls, then steered MP Sports Cherwell League Division 2 Tiddington home at 208-4 with 3.2 overs to spare.

Now Tiddington are at home in the semi-finals to Shipton-under-Wychwood, who eased past Kidmore End by eight wickets.

Andy Hemming hit 91 and captain Steve Bates 35 not out.

Earlier, Kidmore were restricted to 202, which Shipton chased down in 28 overs.

Great & Little Tew hammered Kingston Bagpuize by 201 runs.

Curtly Slatter stole the show with his magnificent 144, but Robbie Shurmer (56no), Dave Powles (31no) and Rob Garrett (30) also chipped in.

Captain Anthony Smith (3-16) and Matty Taylor (3-22) did the damage with the ball as Bagpuize were all out for 77.

Cumnor complete the last four line-up after outclassing hosts The Baldons.

Carl Thompson took 4-4 and Jamie Douglas 2-9 in The Baldons’ 86 all out.

Douglas (52no) then led Cumnor to 90-2.

Meanwhile, Moreton, near Didcot, reached the semi-finals of the Surrey/Berkshire group after defeating Braywood by 142 runs.

They will visit Rowledge in the last four.
