Marston Royal British Legion eventually regained the Greene King Oxford & District Darts Association Winter League Premier Section crown with an 8-1 win in their delayed title-decider against Shears Wantage.

Because the teams were unable to agree on a suitable date , the league had to name a day for the match at the Chequers, Headington more than a month after the end of the regular season.

Marston powered into a 3-0 lead with wins from Nigel Russell, Ady Larner (180) and Peter Hall.

Shears pulled one back when the consistent Kevin Wilkins defeated Ronnie Anderson 3-0, with the aid of a maximum.

But Roger Haines and Phil Addison then secured victory for Marston.

Haines hit a maximum 180 and a superb 160 finish (60-60-40) in his success.

Marston went on to take the pairs 3-0 to seal their triumph.

College Oak cruised to a 7-2 win over Angel 7-2 in the play-off for the runners-up spot in Section 1.

Due to the delay in getting the Premier Section decider played, the start of the Summer League season has had to be put back a week to tonight.

Teams should note they are not allowed to have more than two games outstanding at any one time.

The 2009/2010 Winter League finals will be held at Rover Sports & Social Club, Cowley, on Friday June 4. Tickets at £2 each are available from the Three Horseshoes, Old Marston.

THE winner of the first Rileys Oxford Open this Sunday will walk away with a minimum prize of £300.

Entries are still being accepted for the event to be held at Rileys on Between Towns Road, Oxford, starting at 3pm. The draw takes place at 2.30pm. Cost of entry is £7 in advance or £10 on the day.
