MP Sports Cherwell League - Div 1

Jamie Perkin plundered 154 from 132 balls as Oxford 2nd dominated their one-sided draw with Shipton-under-Wychwood. Perkin was dropped early in his innings, while his in-form teammate Dan King added 58 at a run a ball as Oxford amassed 317-9. Only veteran off-spinner Paul Hemming (3-46) managed to apply the brakes. Shipton never looked like pulling off such a mammoth run chase, but Jon Hartley dug in to compile 81 and Richard Beer (4-64) was unable to finish the job as the visitors closed on 198-8.

The match between Oxford Downs and Buckingham Town followed an almost identical pattern, but this time it was the home side on the wrong side of the scoreline. Downs’ decision to field first was soon made to look foolish when Rob Large struck many lusty blows in his 146, while Leigh Tomlinson added 87 in Town’s imposing 300-4. Lester Smart (3-41) was the only bowler to have much joy with the ball. The loss of four wickets in the early stages of the reply left the home side batting for a draw, which was comfortably achieved by Andrew Buckingham (74no) and James Barrett (73no) as Downs reached 205-4.

Cumnor claimed their first win of the season after they saw off Great & Little Tew by five wickets. Rob Garrett’s 74 might have given Tew a big score to defend, but none of his team mates stayed with him for long and they were all out for 131. Medium pacer Ayaz Khan took 4-30 and off-spinner Adam Cook 3-27. Openers Rob Milne (57) and James Neilson (31) put on 61, and although Joe White (3-51) induced some panic in the home team's ranks, they held their nerve to reach 135-5.

Bourton Vale maintained their 100 per cent winning start to the season, but only by the narrowest of margins at Bletchley Town. Vale looked set to win with ease when Ryan Newhook took 5-41 in a devastating opening burst, then skipper Paul Lazenbury (3-9) finished off Town for 111. They were even better placed when Jaimie Noble (34) and Mark Whitney (30) took them to 61-1. But James Sprittles (5-27) and Wasim Fayyaz (3-31) induced a collapse that was resisted only by Lazenbury (25no), who saw his side to 112-9.
