ANDY Lyne has quit as manager of Witney United – and taken up a new role as assistant to Stuart Peace at Didcot Town, writes Kieren Bushnell.
Lyne, who steered Witney to the last 32 of the FA Vase and a sixth-place finish in the FTL Futbol Hellenic League, cited ‘personal reasons’ for stepping down.
Lyne (pictured) took over three years ago, but last season was the most difficult in his three-year reign as his playing budget was cut twice.
He said: “This has been a very difficult decision for me, but I believe it’s in the best interests for all concerned.
“I do not have the time to lead from the front and manage a club as my work commitments are demanding.”
Witney chairman Steve Lake said: “Everyone involved with the club will be upset about Andy’s announcement, but we respect the reasons behind his decision.
“He will be a very difficult act to follow, and we wish him well.”
Lyne’s move to Didcot has been just the tonic Peace needed to convince him to stay on as boss at Loop Meadow.
Peace said: “A big reason that I’m staying is Andy joining as my assistant.”
