MP Cherwell League - Graham Scott's Match of the Day
Hanborough’s long wait for a victory in the MP Sports Cherwell League goes on as they slipped to yet another defeat on Saturday, this time at the hands of Kingston Bagpuize in Division 3.
The last time Hanborough tasted success was August 30 2008 – a win that secured them promotion to Division 2 for the first time.
But one draw and 15 losses later and they were back in Division 3, and the 2010 season has opened with back-to-back defeats.
At the weekend, they had Kingston Bagpuize in trouble, as change bowler Michael Dove (2-37) and veteran leg spinner Matthew Busby (4-14) both exercised control.
But the 70 runs scored by Kingston’s No 5, Martin Shepherd, were to prove crucial, even though the visitors’ total of 144 was well within Hanborough’s reach.
Opener Andrew Oliver hit 44 after tea, but wickets fell at the other end to Matthew Warner (4-40) and Jamie Cox (3-24).
Despite a rearguard action from Busby (30), the hosts were all out for 132.
This week Hanborough go searching for that elusive victory at home to Oxford 3rd, who are also still seeking their first win of the season.
