MP Cherwell League - Division 2

Abingdon Vale beat Banbury Twenty by 38 runs – but this reveals little about an extraordinary game.

Twenty won the toss, and soon had their visitors in all sorts of trouble.

Ifraan Mahmood took 4-41 from 16 overs and Keith Arnold 4-17 from 9.3 overs to dismiss Abingdon for just 88.

But Vale launched an astonishing fightback, as Graham Charlesworth took 5-18 in 15.2 overs and Paul White bagged 5-18 from 11 overs to dismiss the home side for 50.

There was another low scoring affair between Twyford and Tiddington, who maintained their 100 per cent start.

Sam Hollingshead (3-34), John Ponsford (3-36) and Matt Maule (3-29) all had success as Twyford were bundled out for 110, despite Ian Perna’s 30.

The visitors made hard work of the chase, Adam Bone taking 3-34 and Sam Roberts 3-33, but stumbled to 111-7.

Sandford St Martin beat Banbury 2nd by 33 runs to also make it two from two.

Fred Eliot hit 36 and Alex Kill 30, but a ninth-wicket stand of 42 between James Risbridger (22) and Greg Pearson (16) was key to Sandford’s 156.

Risbridger then took 4-57 and Pearson 4-35 as Banbury were reduced to 65-9. Liam Manley (48) and No 11 Neil Megson (10no) added 58 in vain for the tenth wicket.
