Striker Jack Midson has received a massive boost after he was told by Chris Wilder that he would be a big part of his plans following their promotion back to the Football League.
Midson helped set up the opener for Matt Green and then had the chance to make it 3-0, only to hit a post.
“Everything seemed to stop, the ball bounced up, and I thought I had hit the side-netting but it hit the post.
“I thought I might be rueing it. But I didn't let my head go down and just tried to put it right.
“The team spirit here is amazing. I was disappointed when I was substituted, but the lads that came on Alfie Potter and Sam Deering tied it up..
“We have been working hard as a front three, when I am used to a front two.
“I have never played in the football league and I'm really looking forward to it. Most of the teams that go up from the Conference seem to do well.
“When i was at Histon I wanted to be a full time professional in the conference, but when I came here i saw the ambition of the club and thought the club was geared up for the football league.
“During the week, the boss made us relax and we didn't go spouting off in the press.
“I thought some of the York guys did that. We kept our mouths shut and let the football do the talking.”
Meanwhile, Jake Wright is hoping to seal a permanent move.
Wright, who joined the club on loan from League One Brighton, says he is optimistic that a deal can be sorted out.
“When the manager was sacked (at Brighton) and Gus Poyet came in, I was lucky that he was happy to loan me out,” said Wright, who was in many people’s eyes the man of the match.
“I knew Chris Wilder from my days at Halifax and jumped at the chance to come here. I would love to stay here because the boss is great, the players are great and the fans are just amazing.
“Winning this game was the best feeling I have ever had in football.
“I must say that Andy Melville (defensive coach) has had a great affect on my game, with all his experience.
“I haven't thought about how we will do next season, but I'm not thinking about that. I just want to sort out my future first.
“All my family were here and my grandfather, who is very ill, was also here.
“I thought it was a very open game. They got a goal back and came at us strong, but we deserved to win.
“ When we were up against it, the fans’ support helped us so much.
“They deserve to go back into the football league. It's not cheap to come here and to follow the club all through the season, but they have backed us in their thousands home and away.”
