Steve Malone won the final match in this year’s Ann Malone Memorial fished by 16 over at a patchy Stable Lake and he also captured the overall title after four matches.
He fished the method feeder with meat and landed a net of carp weighing 52.4.0.
John Fisher was runner-up with 37.0.0 of carp, also on the method and meat, followed by Roger Malone with 24.0.0. He alternated between the long pole and feeder, with meat on the hook.
Frank Malone asked me to thank those who have taken part and helped in organising these matches, particularly the owners of Stable Lake, who donated all peg fees to Sobell House, and all those who donated prizes.
In all, a grand total of £940 was raised.
Sutton Courtenay fished a match at Phil’s Lake in Abingdon, a 20-acre water adjacent to Abingdon Marina.
On a cold, rainy day, Andy Whittington triumphed with a nice tench of just under 6lb caught on a groundbait feeder with red maggot.
The Carp League 2010 kicked off last Sunday at Rissington and it was league organiser Andy Benwell (Predator) who came top out of the 19 anglers.
Using a pole at 13.5 metres with paste, he weighed in an impressive net of carp up to 10lb for 131.15.0.
Ivan Graham (J&K Tackle) had to settle for second place with 118.11.0 of carp from ‘the point’ on paste at six metres.
Nick Dean (Maver) was third with 94.4.0 of carp on caster shallow at 16 metres.
Beehive AC fished their float-only match at Milton Pools where a cold north-easterly did slow sport for some of the 14 competitors, but plenty of fish came out.
In first place was Dave Mott, who drew hot peg 15 to take 45.6.0 of carp on pole and caster.
Dave Simmons was runner-up with 44.2.0 of carp and skimmers to pole, pellet and paste, his bag containing a common of 11. 4.0, while third was Chris Dingle with 43.8.0 of carp on pole and paste.
North Oxford fished a club match on the Oxford Canal at King’s Bridge and it was hard work for the 13 matchmen.
Nick Collier drew the boats and fed chopped worm with worm on the hook well over to weigh in a decent chub, plus perch, for a winning 10.14.0.
Down on the rushes, Henry Clarke had a couple of small silver fish out on pinkie and in the last ten minutes of the match landed a nice perch for a second-placed 1.15.0.
Maurice Winstone was on the milestone and fed chop with worm on the hook to tempt a last-gasp skimmer for 1.11.0.
Didcot Angling Centre have been on the Wantage Road for 25 years after the Turner family took over the running of the shop.
To mark the occasion, they held a match on Max’s lake last Sunday, which went to John Percival (see other results).
